MAACO Las Vegas Bowl
Robert Guliano on Why BYU Will Win- There is something unsettling about inviting the Mormons (BYU) to Vegas. While their beliefs deter some of the city’s most dangerous temptations (gambling, alcohol, and drugs), Vegas has plenty of one thing they can’t get enough of, women. BYU has knocked off some big shots this season, and as long as they keep from distraction they have what it takes to beat a Beaver squad that was minutes from the Rose Bowl.
BYU Players To Watch:
3. Max Hall- Another tremendous quarterback in a long line of greats at Brigham Young (Detmer and Young to name a couple).
2. BYU’s Jerseys- They have announced they will be sporting Royal Blue jerseys to recognize the 1984 Cougars 25 years after their previously forgotten win over Michigan in the ever so extraneous Holiday Bowl. Look for the jerseys to not only fail to gather any enthusiasm for the game but to play no role whatsoever in its depiction, appearance, or relevance. Let alone its outcome.
1. Any MAACO representatives- The game’s sponsor, MAACO, is in the business of repairing and re-painting automobiles. Since they are hosting a game in Vegas, they better become well versed in repairing and re-painting people’s images. Maybe Tiger should fly in for a trial run. Or maybe he should steer clear of the Vegas scene for a few generations.
Brandon Hickey on why Oregon State will win: The Beavers (hehe) were playing for the Rose Bowl last game, but lost the Civil War to Oregon. So, they were relegated to Las Vegas to gamble away their hopes and dreams before the Las Vegas Bowl. Mike Riley has to come up with different ways to motivate this team for this game after that emotional loss to Oregon. He may bring in Celine Dion to sing “My Heart Will Go On,” to let his team know they should forget about that loss. Or, he could bring in Siegfried to talk about how he reacted to Roy getting attacked by a white tiger and how he had the strength to do shows without his confidant right beside him. Or maybe he’ll just bring in Barry Manilow to sing some tunes, which always seem to work. Whichever way, Oregon State will be ready to play.
3. Chad Ochocinco+T.J. Houshmandzadeh-Two good receivers who came out of the program. One is nuts and the other has bad hair. Watch out for these guys if they’re on the sideline.
2. QB Sean Canfield-Sean Canfield is pretty good. He’s thrown for a lot of yards and has numerous touchdowns.
1. The Rodgers Brothers-Both Jacquizz (RB) and James (WR) Rodgers are just munchkins, and BYU may find it hard to see them. But they have totaled 1377 yards rushing and 1004 yards receiving, respectively. On an unrelated note, if you played “Jacquizz” in Scrabble and got a triple word score, you may have just shattered a Scrabble scoring record.
THE COMPROMISE: Beaver D keeps Hall in check, the Rodgers brothers run around and under BYU all night, 34-24 Oregon State.
