International Bowl: USF vs. NIU

International Bowl

Robert Guliano on why South Florida will win: Because it is time for them to get back on track. Seemingly every year they begin the season undefeated and find themselves ranked in or near the top ten. Then, they fall harder than Fidel Castro on a standard stage stairwell. They were 2-5 against bowl-bound teams this year. Northern Illinois will be a good opponent to beat to restart the trend of a strong start accompanied by an inevitably poor finish.

South Florida players to watch:

3. Jim Leavitt- South Florida coach Leavitt looks like a coaching God in September and early October.

2. QB B.J. Daniels- Has filled in well for starter Matt Grothe this year. Daniels can change games with his feet and arm.

1. Canada- I thought about another rant on why we are playing football in Canada, but I decided it is for the best. In a game that is chock full of not so NFL talent, the Toronto location should serve as a convenient one for hungry CFL scouts.

Brandon Hickey on why NIU will win: Northern Illinois comes into the prestigious International Bowl at a promising 7-5. These seven wins came over teams with losing records. Gotta love Mid-American Conference football. It's no surprise the MAC is 0-2 right now and could possibly go winless in bowl games where only one of them is against a Big Six Conference. Coincidentally, that game happens to be this one. South Florida is a decent Big East team, something Northern Illinois is not used to seeing. Like warm weather and clean politicians.
NIU Players to Watch:
3. Michael Turner and Garrett Wolfe-The two most famous Husky running backs have been tearing up the NFL. They may or may not care about this game, but I’m pretty sure they won't.
2. Canada-This will be the second year Canada is hosting a bowl game. And hopefully the last.
1. RB Chad Spann-Spann leads the team in rushing with 945 yards and 19 scores. He had 8 two-touchdown games, and will need to be productive against an outstanding South Florida defense.

THE COMPROMISE: South Florida invades Canada, 31-14 Bulls
